Princess Mononoke Papercraft - Kodama

It's Thanksgiving Day/Turkey Day here in the US, I couldn't find any good papercraft models for it so we'll just have to settle for this Princess Mononoke papercraft. It's not the actual princess (San) but of the Kodama - they're the spirits living in the forest. This cute Kodama is from a modified version of the nifty rabbit papercraft and edited by kewl british artist *kickass-peanut (Hannah?). Check out her deviantART page for more details.

Tales from Earthsea Papercraft (Gedo Senki)

A very brave soul called Tehanu has posted the Tales from the Earthsea papercraft pattern (ゲド戦記Gedo Senki ) on her blog, aptly named, Tehanu's Flight. In it you can see a sort of insight on how the poster completed her dragon. On the book itself, there are two forms of dragons that you can build, one is on a sitting posture and the other is flying. If you like it or if you are a big fan of Studio Ghibili or papercrafting, please buy the book to support the author/creator.

Catbus (Nekobasu)

Here's the Catbus paper model from the movie "My Neighbor Totoro" (Tonari no Totoro), which was created by the famous anime film maker, Hayao Miyazaki. This paper model is pretty basic, cut-score-fold-glue. There are two types of format for you to choose from, one is in JPG and the other is PDF. The finished paper model is quite small, about 8cm L x 2cm W x 4cm H. Now you have a new Ghibli paper model to go along with Totoro.

Jiji the Cat Papercraft

Here is a paper model of Jiji, the cat from Kiki's Delivery Service. This is my version of Jiji, taken with permission from Kotetsu's web site, Kinmoku.net. I used the Luna paper model (Sailormoon's cat), changed it's color and added some whiskers. Meow!

No-Face

It's been pretty quite in paperkraft land for the past couple weeks, not because I've run out of paper models to do, but I've been doing my very own paper model. I won't go into details that much but let me tell you about the software I used, I bought Newtek Lightwave 8.5 as my 3D modeler and Tamasoft's Pepakura Designer to convert the 3D object to a paper model. I've chosen No-Face (Spirited Away) as my first model because it was the most requested via email and also I think it's pretty easy???
As you can see from the pics below that the final model is a bit small and still has that blocky effect all over his face and body, I'm still in the process of refining those features and making him about 2 or 3 times bigger. Also, I have not finished the instructions for assembling him (for novices), but most of you shouldn't have any problems with this one, I've pretty much aligned up the parts to be connected. This paper model is about 3 1/2" x 1 1/2" when completed.
So, I hope you like it and keep updated for the "smoother" version coming soon.

Howl's Moving Castle Papercraft

One of my favorite movies from Hayao Miyazaki is finally on DVD, Howl's Moving Castle ( Hauru no ugoku shiro) was an Oscar nominee for Best Animated Feature Film for 2005. This is probably one of the best free papercraft models in my collection and it took me four days to complete it. The model is highly detailed and has moving parts, particularly the wings, this is considered a paper craft model and at the same time a paper automata because it's got the mechanisms for movement. If you haven't seen the movie, I highly recommend you see it, buy or rent it on DVD. This Howl's Moving Castle papercraft is hosted by Epson Japan and is available for both Windows and Mac users. The files come in two parts, a guide and the pattern itself and is really huge, the pattern is 54MB and the guide is 15MB for Windows users, it's even bigger for the MacOS crowd.
This Howl's Moving Castle papercraft was printed on A4 paper by a Canon Pixma iP3000, If your having a hard time understanding the instruction guide(Japanese), you can download an English translation for it below, courtesy of rose-rote. Check out some detailed photos I took of my model at my Flickr page.

Totoro Papercraft

Totoro is the big cuddly star of Japanese animation film Tonari no Totoro, which was released in the U.S.A as My Neighbor Totoro. Studio Ghibli fans, you know what this is. For those of you who don't have any clue, I highly suggest you watch My Neighbor Totoro or any other Ghibli film for that matter. Other titles include Howl's Moving Castle and my favorite, Spirited Away. This paper model is hosted by Mokumoku.
