Lyo the Lion and Merly the Merlion papercrafts, Official Mascots for the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games (Aug 14-26).

Lyo, the "Lion of the Youth Olympics", is a lion cub with a mane as fiery as his passion for life. Full of youthful energy, Lyo is always on the go, exploring and discovering new things and playing sports.

Merly got her name from "mer" (meaning the sea) and "l y" for liveliness and youthfulness. She is a merlion cub who loves exploring the seas surrounding Singapore, and beyond. Although merlions are omnivorous by nature, Merly sticks to a vegetarian diet out of a deep respect for all living creatures.

Ilanaaq the Inukshuk Papercraft (2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics Emblem)

With the 2010 Vancouver Winter games underway, heres the official emblem called Ilanaaq the Inukshuk, papercraft by epengr.

Inukshuk is a symbol used by Canada's Inuit people / Eskimos to act as guidepost for people travelling in the frozen tundra. The Inukshuk is often seen as a bunch of stocked rocks that takes the form of a human. Ilanaaq is an Inuit word that means "friend".

Water Polo Ball Papercraft

A cleverly designed water polo ball papercraft from the official Japanese page of the Gifu Prefecture (aka Gifu-ken) water polo team, who is vying for a spot in the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.

Water polo balls used to be a solid yellow color, but recent developments in the game have introduced / permitted middle stripes (of a different color) on each side of the ball. The water polo balls look a lot like volleyball (balls) in structure, except that they're made of a waterproof material and covered with a special texture for gripability.

2008 Olympic Papercrafts - Update

We're more than halfway to the 2008 Summer Olympics and Epson HK just now decided to release the second part of their Olympic papercrafts. This time around there's more full on 3D papercrafts including taekwondo, swimming, baseball, men and women's gymnastics, track and field, boxing, synchronized swimming, water polo, and fencing. Two are given the 2D and simple treatment, which includes flatwater canoeing and diving. All Epson Olympic papercrafts made by designer Chan See Lik Paul.

2008 Olympic Papercraft Mascots

The Fuwa or "good luck dolls" in Chinese are the official mascots for the 2008 Summer Olympics being held in Beijing. They were designed by Han Meilin and consist of five members. They are Beibei (blue), Jingjing (black), Huanhuan (red), Yingying (yellow?) and Nini (green) - like other mascots before them, each one represents a color from the five Olympic Rings. I'm not sure about Yinying though, one of the official colors is yellow, but he looks more orange to me. Probably a result of China flexing its muscle again, defiant as always.

The designer calls himself paperpop and makes his home at the cardmodel site (China). He has released the first (Beibei) of the five Olympic papercrafts and would continue to do so on the 24th of each month until all five mascots are done, with the last one being on the actual end date of the Olympic games.

2008 Olympic Papercrafts

With the XXIX Olympiad (Beijing 2008 Olympic Games) being marred by global protests due to China's worsening track record on human rights, Epson Hong Kong has focused on the positive side and commissioned these inspiring Olympic papercrafts from designer Chan See Lik Paul. The set includes six simple (rowing, pole vault, cycling/group, sailing, equestrian) paper models and three impressive (weight lifting, archery, kayak slalom) ones.
